Black Obsidian Pixiu Bracelet – Gold Pixiu & Lucky Dice

Original price was: $49.95.Current price is: $37.46.

The Pixiu is the creature in Chinese folklore that draws fortune in and has no way of letting it back out. This bracelet carries one, cast in gold tone on a strand of real black obsidian. People wear it the way you might carry a smooth stone in a pocket: not as a plan, but as something to touch when you are trying to turn a corner.

What is a Pixiu?

The Pixiu is a winged guardian beast from Chinese mythology, said to feed on gold and silver and to have no opening to release what it takes in. That single detail is why it became the fortune symbol it is: a creature that gathers and holds. It appears on bracelets, rings and doorway statues, and it is usually shown with its head raised and its mouth open, ready to take something in.

Which wrist does a Pixiu bracelet go on?

Wear it on your left wrist with the Pixiu’s head facing away from your body. In Feng Shui practice the left side is the receiving side, so the tradition is to let the beast face outward, as though it is looking for what it is meant to bring back. If you wear a watch on your left wrist, this sits comfortably on the right instead. The tradition is a tradition, not a rule.

How do you activate a Pixiu bracelet?

The common practice is to rinse it under running water, let it dry, and hold it for a moment while you name what you are working toward. Some people repeat that on the first and fifteenth of the lunar month. None of this is required for the bracelet to be worn, and none of it is something we can promise a result from. It is a small ritual that helps people set an intention, and that is the whole of it.

Who should not wear a Pixiu bracelet?

Tradition holds that the Pixiu is not worn by pregnant women, and that it is kept away from the face and away from being touched by others. Some practitioners also set it down during funerals. These are customs rather than warnings, and they vary from teacher to teacher. If any of them matters to you, follow the version you were taught.

Will it fit?

One size, and it is a fixed size rather than a stretch fit. The beads are 10mm on an inner circumference of about 7.1 inches (18cm), with no stretch and nothing to adjust. Measure your wrist before you order: under about 6 inches and this will sit loose on you. Two of our twenty-eight reviewers found it sat wrong for them, one loose and one tight, which is what a fixed size does at either extreme.

How do you care for black obsidian?

Keep it away from perfume, hand sanitiser and chlorine, which dull the polish over time. Wipe it with a soft dry cloth. Take it off before swimming or showering, and rest it somewhere it will not be knocked, since obsidian is glass and will chip against a hard edge.
